The Cutting Board Cooking Club is a club devoted to bringing people together through the use of food.   When we look around the world, people unite around food.  We learn how to cook properly; from learning knife skills to making tapas.  We also give back to our community through a food drive for the Second Harvest Food Bank and other volunteer opportunities.

We would like to thank everyone who helped us surpass our goal of 750lbs by almost double!  We collected over 1200lbs of food for the Backpack Buddies program through Second Harvest Food Bank.

Many people think of food banks during the holiday season, we want to draw your attention to the kids who will be getting out of school in June and will lose a meal or two a day.  CBCC has partnered with Second Harvest to host a drive for the Backpack Buddies Program.

What is Back Pack Buddies??  (Taken from the Second Harvest Food Bank website)

Backpack Buddies is a kid-friendly supplemental nutrition program administered by the Second Harvest member agencies that have after-school programs. Staff members at each of the locations identify children who are currently enrolled in their programs and are in need of food assistance. These low-income children eat their meals at school through government subsidized breakfast and lunch programs. For them, weekends and holidays can mean going hungry. Even moderate malnutrition can have long-lasting effects on children’s growth and ability to learn.

Once identified, these children receive a weekly backpack of kid-friendly food to supplement their meals from Friday night until they return to school on Monday morning. Each backpack contains cereal, peanut butter, canned vegetables and fruit, soup, macaroni and cheese, canned one-dish meals, and healthy snacks.
